We tend to fall into two categories when it comes to staying tidy: those who really keep on top of their tidying, and those that couldn’t give two hoots. If you fall into the latter category when it comes to keeping your wardrobe in order, then this article should show you some real benefits to having a wardrobe maintenance routine.
Allow us to share some of the reasons behind keeping your wardrobe tidy, as well as some hints and tip to help you along the way.
You’ll know what’s clean
…and therefore, you’ll know what you need to get in the wash ASAP. There’s nothing worse than deciding on an outfit only to discover that one of the items of clothing is in the washing basket. One idea is to use cascading hooks to group together good outfit combinations. That way, you can group your outfits together and you’ll know exactly what’s missing from each ensemble.
It will halve time spent getting ready
If you have a routine, you can keep this season's favourites easily accessible to speed up getting ready in the morning. Why not try putting your summer clothes in vacuum packs at the top of the wardrobe when the season is over, so your winter clothes can take centre stage?
If your wardrobe is messy, you’ll lose everything
There are few things more frustrating than not being able to find something. Sometimes, you’ll have only seen it a few weeks previously. Did you lend it to someone? Is it in the wash? Have you accidently put it in your son’s washing pile? No. It’s at the bottom of your wardrobe, in the heap of clothes that has been steadily accumulating. Having thin, matching hangers not only looks neater at a glance, but it also allows you to fit more items in your wardrobe (which means less items on the floor).
It will help you stay calm
There’s no doubt about it, messy areas make you stressed, whether you’re conscious of it or not. In the heat of the moment, when you’re wrestling with an unkempt wardrobe, it can seem as though there’s no bigger evil than a top that won’t stay on the hanger. If that’s the case, then you need to give up the ghost and find another way to store said pieces. Big storage containers that can be slid under the bed are often an effective way to get things tidied away. If you don’t have any under-bed storage space, or you’re keen to keep these items in the wardrobe space, then when not get a hanging clothes organiser?
You can get rid of what you don’t need
A surprising amount of wardrobe space is taken up by things you don’t need, or items that you think you do, but rarely ever wear. This does nothing but clutter and make it more difficult to get at what you need. This is a problem solved, however, if you partake in regular wardrobe maintenance – and this part means being brutal. If you come across an item that you haven’t worn for the past year, then you should either bin it, give it to charity, or sell it online.
Having a wardrobe maintenance routine might seem to verge on neurotic at first, but when you consider the amount of time and stress you’ll save yourself, it really does seem foolish not to.
