New Year, New kitchen

The approach of the New Year always gets us to thinking about areas we’d like to see change, in both our lifestyle, and in our home. It is possible to say that the two are rarely separable, and that the change of one often affects the other, and this is beneficial; if we live in a space that promotes positive change, we’re more likely to stick to those changes in our day-to-day life.
Christmas is the ideal time to take a look at just how your living space could be changed to best suit your needs. First of all you will be in the kitchen more of the time, usually for longer periods, and with a little effort, you can make use of what this teaches you about how you would ideally use the space. Keep a notebook in which to jot down recurrent problems of space, organization and functionality, while also noting down features you have noticed would be ideally beneficial.
Furthermore, there’s no reason why your New Years resolutions shouldn’t segue into your ideas for your re-thought kitchen space. If you’ve decided to spend more time with the family this coming year, think about how you might tailor other spaces to be an inviting communal part of the house; a modern fitted kitchen / dining area can be the perfect place for your family to gather in the evenings, both in the winter months when warmth is especially comforting, and on into the summer when you’ll enjoy somewhere to take long leisurely meals together.
If you’ve finally decided on a vast change of diet this year, you’ll want a space to convince you of your inner change to do so. If the timing falls right, tying in a solid diet change with a kitchen renovation is a great way to sweep away the thought of bad habits. Clean, crisp surfaces, space for living herbs, organized cupboards for fresh ingredients, preserves and spices, an atmospheric lighting plan – all these things are sure to get your family actively interested in healthy eating for good.
Many people are deciding to take recycling more seriously this New Year, and if you’re having to separate a smelly mixed bag of rubbish out in the cold every time you do it, your chances of sticking to your resolution are improbable, to say the least. Take control and vow to free up those dusty cupboards full of clutter, and to plan a separable recycling bay in the existing space. This way the trip to the bins is clean and light, and you can even be sure of getting purer compost as a bonus.
With the approach of the New Years sales, don’t miss out on your chance to bring the winds of change into your home.
